HOW TO GET YOUR CLASS 2 LICENSE
Central Lakes Licensing provides local Otago truck driver training for companies or individuals. Our Class 2 License Course takes you through all the training you need to get your Class 2 truck license. This includes practical hands on truck driver training, teaching and study for the NZQA unit standards, a logbook and your assessment. No further practical test is required once you complete the course successfully.
WHAT IS A CLASS 2 LICENCE?
A Class 2 licence endorsement gives you a licence to operate a heavy rigid vehicle with a gross laden weight (GLW) of between 6,000kg to 18,000kg
Or
A combination vehicle with a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of 12,000kg or less.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
You must already hold a full Class 1 License for six months prior to completing this course. You will be asked to present a driver’s medical certificate from your doctor when applying for your Class 2 Learner License.
CLASS 2 LICENSE COURSE COST
- Full training including logbook (if you already hold a Class 2 Learner License)
$1050 or, - Full training including logbook AND Learner License study session (if required)

Class 2 COURSE CONTENT
Our Class 2 training is two days long and includes theory, practical training and assessment in a Class 2 vehicle in Otago, including:
LEARNER LICENSE STUDY
Learner licence study session to help you get your Class 2 Learner Licence (optional - if required)
Practical Training & Assessment
Practical truck driver training and assessment in a class 2 vehicle
NZQA Unit Standard 24089
NZQA Unit Standard 24089. “Demonstrate knowledge of fatigue management, work time, and driver logbook requirements”. Includes logbook, training, study and assessment.
NZQA Unit Standard 17574
NZQA Unit Standard 17574 “Operate a rigid vehicle to meet the requirements for a full Class 2 driver licence”. Includes training, study and assessment.
AFTER SUCCESSFULLY PASSING THE COURSE
You will be credited with NZQA Unit Standards 17574 and 24089 on your NZQA Record of Achievement and you will get the Class 2 certificate.
HOW TO GET YOUR CLASS 2 ENDORSED ON YOUR LICENCE
After successfully completing the course present your NZTA course certificate provided by Central Lakes Licensing to a licensing agent (AA or VTNZ). They will assist you to apply to have your license amended to include your new full class 2 license (fees apply).
IMPORTANT: You are NOT licenced to drive a class 2 vehicle unsupervised on the road until you have your full Class 2 License endorsed on your Driver Licence.
