HOW TO GET YOUR CLASS 5 LICENSE
Central Lakes Licensing provides local Otago truck driver training for companies or individuals. Our Class 5 License Course takes you through all the training you need to get your Class 5 truck license. This includes practical hands on truck driver training, teaching and study for the NZQA unit standards and your assessment. No further practical test is required once you complete the course successfully.
WHAT IS A CLASS 5 LICENCE?
A Class 5 licence endorsement allows you to operate a Heavy Combination Vehicle with a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of more than 25,000 Kg.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
- You MUST hold a Class 5 learner license before starting this course
- Evidence of having completed NZQA Unit Standard 24089 (Logbook unit standard)
CLASS 5 LICENSE COURSE COST
Full training, study and assessment (based on you already holding logbook NZQA Unit Standard 24089).

Class 5 COURSE CONTENT
Our Otago Class 5 training is held over 4-6 hours and includes theory, training and assessment in a Class 5 vehicle including:
NZQA Unit Standard 17577
NZQA Unit Standard 17577 “Operate a combination vehicle to meet the requirements for a full Class 5 driver licence”. Includes, training, study and assessment.

Practical truck driver training and assessment in a class 5 vehicle
AFTER SUCCESSFULLY PASSING THE COURSE
In addition to receiving the course certificate, you will be credited with Unit Standard 17577 on your NZQA Record of Achievement.
HOW TO GET YOUR CLASS 5 ENDORSED ON YOUR LICENCE
After successfully completing the course present your NZTA course certificate provided by Central Lakes Licensing to a licensing agent (AA or VTNZ). They will assist you to apply to have your license amended to include your new full class 5 license (fees apply).
IMPORTANT: You are NOT licenced to drive a class 5 vehicle unsupervised on the road until you have your full Class 4 License endorsed on your Driver Licence.
